Five wooden pencils—each clearly stamped with a unique number from 1 to 5—are handed to a spectator for thorough examination. The spectator confirms that the pencils are completely un-gimmicked. The magician then places their hands behind their back (or turns away) while the spectator thoroughly mixes the pencils and calls out any number from 1 to 5. Instantly, without looking, the magician reaches behind their back and brings forward the exact numbered pencil called for by the audience.

Why Add It to Your Repertoire:

This 1970s pocket mentalism trick is a brilliant example of practical "hold-out" secret indexing. While the spectator believes the magician is identifying the pencils behind their back through tactile sensing or Extrasensory Perception, the secret relies on a clever red vinyl/cardstock 5-pocket indexing holder pinned behind the performer's jacket or vest. The spectator's un-gimmicked pencils are simply switched or indexed quickly, allowing for an effortless, foolproof demonstration of mind reading. Complete with the original set of five stamped yellow wooden pencils ("ESP PENCIL NO. 1" through "ESP PENCIL NO. 5"), red indexing holder with safety pin, typed instruction sheet, and original illustrated Fassini’s Magic envelope (bearing the 1975 copyright line), this is a fun and collectible piece of mid-century American mentalism history.

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0675/7751/1995/files/B70CC61E-E952-4D3F-A1E1-E92ABEC13F38.jpg?v=1793132312
