The Potato Box (invented by U.F. Grant and manufactured by MAK Magic) is a classic visual comedy routine and transposition for stage and parlor shows. A raw, unprepared potato is placed inside a wooden display box or cabinet. Meanwhile, a borrowed bill, ring, silk, or selected card is vanished into thin air. Upon opening the box, the spectator’s lost object is found magically embedded inside the potato! Alternatively, the potato vanishes completely from the box to be found elsewhere in a hilarious location.
Why Add It to Your Repertoire:
U.F. Grant's genius lay in designing simple, durable, and mechanically foolproof apparatus that allowed performers to deliver high-impact comedy routines without complex sleight of hand. The Potato Box features classic mid-century MAK Magic stenciling, sturdy wooden construction, and smooth-operating secret trap doors/mechanisms designed for fast loading and seamless reveals. It is a fantastic, crowd-pleasing feature piece for family-friendly, children's, and comedy stage performances, as well as a great vintage collectible piece from the U.F. Grant / MAK Magic era.
