🔥🔥🔥Kikuchi's Fickle Fire is a legendary stage and close-up magic trick created by Japanese magician Yutaka Kikuchi in 1976. It is very difficult to find an original these days, much less two complete sets offered together.

It uses a specially engineered palm gimmick that allows performers to instantly produce a burst of real fire in their hands, toss it from hand to hand, and instantly vanish it to produce a silk or cane.

How It Works

  • The Gimmick: You are supplied with two specialized, concealable metal gimmicks—one for each hand. They operate like a mechanical lighter.
  • The Fuel: The device is saturated with standard cigarette or butane lighter fluid and features a friction flint wheel.
  • The Effect: With a flick of the thumb, the magician creates a bright 7- to 8-inch flame from an apparently empty palm. The clever engineering allows the gimmick to rotate around the finger so the performer can briefly show both sides of their hand empty.

Popular Routines

  • Hand-to-Hand: Performers toss the flames back and forth between both hands.
  • Fire to Silk: By closing the hand, the fire instantly goes out and, in its place, a large silk handkerchief is produced.
  • Production: Magicians can continuously pull out canes, ropes, or doves while the Fickle Fire gimmicks are actively worn.
